Apologies if this has already been posted somewhere, but as I was updating my Xperia Link app on the play store, I noticed it has screenshots which had the notification bar moves to the top and the three main home, back and open apps buttons moved to the centre of the bottom bar like a nexus 10.

So it seems Sony will be changing it to match the Nexus tablet line UI for the forthcoming update.

I like the idea of that but the only issue I can see is there is no shortcut to access Small Apps like there is now unless I just missed it.

is that what 4.2 will really look like?
im not a hater or anything but to be honest i dont like it, i guess i need to stick the current appearance if that so...
plus i agree with the person above me.. the shortcut for small apps and remote is gone...
anyway, its not really out yet and i hope that kind of appearance is for phones :)

i just remember that i think xperia z tab will not go for 4.2 cause it will jump to 4.3, IM NOT SURE

Android adopted the phablet UI in favour of the tablet UI from 4.2 onwards.

the image is clearly photoshopped. look at the status bar - the bluetooth and wifi icons are off centered and much too big, same with the battery percentage. also the apps look like they are copied in, they are much too close to the navigation bar. this is clearly a fake screenshot.

let´s see what the real 4.2 update will bring us:p i would appreciate the switch to the new tablet ui from 4.2. it´s so much more intuitive and needed for 4.2 because where would the quicksettings go without it?

I don't think Sony will switch to a phablet ui. It would confuse their 'normal' consumer base (excluding people here). And companies always assume users are idiots, so i'm pretty sure we'll still have the tablet ui :D

Sony is trying to keep the core framework and such as close as possible to stock Android. I also don't like this new UI, but I'm sure as soon as we have the 4.2 system deodexed, mods to bring the old Tablet UI will be back...

It might be photo shopped, but it is from official screenshots from a Sony tablet app on Google Play, so we have to assume it is the new UI. Like you though, I guess we'll have to see

Nothing surprise if Sony switch to this Phablet look as Android officially kill off the Tablet UI since Jelly Bean 4.2.2

I do hope Sony keep the tablet UI even on 4.2.2 or 4.3 in future, I not really fancy on Phablet UI on Tablet due to it just smaller more the screen usage due to Status Bar and Navigation Bar get separate.

If this ends up being the case someone will need to port PA to this device. I do not want to give up more screen for the notification bar up top.

If I'm not wrong they've already ported PA

Sent from my Nexus 4

I've seen PAC-Man but not PA, PAC has the PA per-app DPI changer so its pretty much PA with a bunch more goodies from CM and AOKP.

The only problem is, unless it has been fixed in the past 2 or 3 days, that the ROMs don't have WiFi working on the WiFi only XTZ. A lot of people, myself included, chose the WiFi only XTZ because we didn't need the cellular connectivity and because it was quite a bit cheaper. The entire reason a lot of people haven't unlocked their bootloader is because there is simply no reason to at the current moment because the ROMs haven't progressed far enough, no fault of the hard working devs, for them to be completely functional or have even all the core functions.

It's now early August, the ZR has received 4.2.2 as promised so hopefully it won't be too long now. I hope the beginning of this week.

Small apps are probably going to be moved to the recent apps button like they are on the smartphones.

Sent from my LT15a using xda app-developers app

I have never seen how that's implemented, I have never had the chance to use a Sony android phone. My carrier, Verizon, doesn't carry them, I believe the last one that Big Red had was the Xperia Play. Hopefully Big Red will bring the Xperia Z Ultra, I would gladly give up my Note 2 and pay full retail price, to keep my unlimited plan, for it!

Anyway, I got off topic for a bit.... Would you mind explaining how the Small Apps being in the Recent Apps works?

More or less like this:

If you press the arrow down, it shows the recent apps list.

Thank you for the screen shot. I will be sticking to Android 4.1.2 or work on rooting/flash Pacman. I love the tablet layout and not the phablet.
Then you probably forever stick at 4.1.2 and forever no chances to upgrade to newer device in future.

Android destroy the tablet UI since 4.2 and no longer return back the awesome tablet UI.
