In an effort to address catalytic converters thefts, the Elk Grove Police is partnering with Jiffy Lube to offer a free etching event.

The event will take place on Tuesday, June 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Jiffy Lube located at the entrance area of the Elk Grove Auto Matt. (9611 Auto Center Drive in Elk Grove).

During the "Etch and Catch" event, your vehicle's license plate number will be etched onto your catalytic converter(s).  The etching may deter thieves from stealing your converter.

The presence of license plate numbers on catalytic converters can also provide law enforcement with the information needed to identify stolen property, contact victims, and apprehend criminals.  This free "Etch and Catch"  event is open to residents of all cities.

Always trying to keep up with Roseville, who started this program on January 16th, according to the Bee. Don't get me wrong, we appreciate the gesture by Jiffy Lube--unless the taxpayers slipped them a little incentive money under the tailpipe!
