Ticket sales for Star Trek Into Darkness on Fandango have hit warp nine.
Seventy-one percent of ticket sales Tuesday morning on Fandango were for the J.J. Abrams film, according to data from the site. It is doing double the business Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek reboot had done at the same point in the previous film’s cycle.

Hundreds of show times have already sold out, and a survey of 1,000 ticket buyers revealed 55 percent of them planned on seeing Into Darkness more than once. Ninety-three percent said they planned on seeing it opening weekend. And 15 percent said they would wear Trek attire to the film. (Here’s to hoping that goes better than a disastrous S.H.I.E.L.D. cosplay for Iron Man 3 last week.)
A limited number of customers who purchase tickets for Into Darkness will receive an iTunes download of 2009’s Star Trek. Paramount’s Star Trek Into Darkness opens in U.S. theaters Thursday, with IMAX showings taking place at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Overseas, the film opened to a strong $31.7 million take over the weekend. The film stars Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto in the roles of James T. Kirk and Spock, respectively, and features series newcomer Benedict Cumberbatch as the villain John Harrison.
