SACRAMENTO —

Nearly 3,000 miles from the Seminole County Courthouse in Sanford, Florida, dozens of protestors met at the federal courthouse on 5th and I, downtown Sacramento Sunday to voice their opinions on the George Zimmerman verdict, after a Florida jury found the 29-year-old not guilty Saturday.

Zimmerman was originally charged with the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

“This is about race. It’s about perceptions people have about people of color” one protestor told FOX40.

Others, like Elizabeth Adam of Auburn, blame the system. “My son, who is Caucasian, was unarmed when he was shot and killed last year by Los Angeles Sheriff Deputies” she tells FOX40.

Emotional reactions were heard in cities across the nation as people expressed their opinions at demonstrations and even, on Twitter.

Comments from those supporting the verdict were seemingly few and far between. John Hinderraker, an attorney from Minnesota, tweeted: “Not guilty. My faith in juries is indicated. We don’t know who these 6 women are, but thank god for them” the tweet read.

The protest in Sacramento remained peaceful. At least two Sacramento police officers were present at all times.
