KISSANAHEIM (Los Angeles Times)-

Who’d have guessed that it would turn out to be rock group KISS that brings a professional football team to the Los Angeles area, but that’s what the cartoonish heavy metal band is doing in buying an Arena Football League team to be called L.A. KISS and slated to take the field in 2014.

L.A. KISS is an expansion team in the Arena League, and brings Arena football back to the L.A.-Orange County region for the first time in five years, the league announced Thursday. The L.A.-based team team will use the Honda Center in Anaheim as its home field.

“As a fast-paced, high-action band, this partnership with the AFL was an obvious fit for us,” KISS singer-bassist Gene Simmons said in a statement.
