As much as a multitude of publishers wish otherwise, comics don’t draw themselves, and the comics industry is in seemingly constant need of new talent to ensure everything comes out on time. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that one publisher has turned to social media to discover the stars of tomorrow, as Boom! Studios launches an open submissions process on Facebook for artists, letterers and colorists.
The publisher’s Artist Submissions page allows new creators to upload samples of their work to the centralized timeline, where it’ll be reviewed by Boom! editorial staff. As the page’s “About” description explains, the publisher “has hired a number of artists this way” in the past.

Managing editor Bryce Carlson said that he’s “really excited” about the new page. “Not only is the Boom! Studios Artist Submissions page an amazing opportunity for aspiring artists, colorists, and letterers to get their samples in front of Boom! editors on a regular basis and find helpful tips and advice, it’s also a great community for creators to interact and learn from each other,” he added. “Finding new talent is awesome, but providing a home for people to grow and learn together is what really makes this so special.”
Sadly, the page offers no such submission or review process for wannabe writers — in fact, Boom! points out that “ALL unsolicited writing submissions will not be reviewed.” Of course, with a bench of writers that includes Clive Barker, Si Spencer and 2 Guns (and its sequel, 3 Guns) co-creator Steven Grant, perhaps Boom! isn’t feeling the writerly pinch just yet.
