European Mobility Week, featuring the citizens
Mobility in Europe plays a vital role for the internal market and the quality of life of citizens. We are perfectly aware of how the transport sector appears crucial to the economy and society, providing economic growth and employment. We close our eyes, however, on the fact that the transport sector is not sustainable.
The European Commission denounces it for some time: the transports are in fact responsible for about 1/3 of the total final energy consumption in member countries of the European Environment Agency, and more than 1/5 of greenhouse gas emissions, as well as a considerable part of urban air pollution and noise that we experience every day. Commission awards funding to 18 European sustainable mobility initiatives
As part of its three-year Sustainable Urban Mobility campaign “Do The Right Mix”, the European Commission has recently released the names of 18 campaigner-led actions to be awarded funding. Each action will receive up to EUR 7000, which can be used to strengthen activities promoting sustainable urban mobility, from cycling courses, to car-sharing, fun activities for children and more. UITP target policy makers in new public transport campaign “All Together for Public Transport Growth”
The new campaign of International Association of Public Transport (UITP) targets policy makers and aims to raise awareness of the urgent need for more and better public transport, highlighting the benefits of sustainable mobility. To coincide with European Mobility Week, cities across the globe will display the rallying slogan ‘Grow’ on and in public transport vehicles, stations, stops, websites and social media. Read more

Consultation on the draft Guidelines on State aid to airports and airlines
Institutions, public authorities, citizens, companies and organizations are welcome to contribute to this consultation. Contributions are particularly sought from public authorities financing airports and providing start-up aid for the development of new routes and the aviation industry (in particular airport operators, airlines, ground handling companies). Deadline: 25.09.2013. Read more

Aviation safety: Commission updates the European safety list of banned airlines
The European Commission has recently updated the European list of airlines subject to an operating ban or operational restrictions within the European Union, better known as "the EU air safety list". Read more

European Commission invests €600 million in new research to unblock congestion in Europe's airspace
The Commission is looking to head off a capacity crunch as the number of flights is forecast to increase by 50% over the next 10-20 years. The goal is to develop the new technology needed to deliver Europe's Single Sky – the ambitious project to reform Europe's airspace, doubling capacity and halving air traffic management costs. Environment: Urban wastewater trends moving in the right direction
The latest figures for wastewater treatment in Europe show improvements in collection and treatment, even if big differences remain between Member States. Frontrunners such as Austria, Germany and the Netherlands largely meet EU minimum standards for wastewater treatment with several others being very close. Download the Report

On the magazine  Environment and Planning C: Government and Policy has been published an essay of three German scholars entitled: “Mainstreaming climate policy: the case of climate adaptation and the implementation of EU water policy”.
