Jennifer Lopez‘s boyfriend may have spoken out of turn when he confirmed to E! News that the singer-actress will be returning as an American Idol judge next season.
Asked whether Lopez is planning to join the Fox singing competition’s 13th season, Casper Smart replied: “Yes.”
The problem? Fox has yet to make any announcement about Lopez’s return. Oops.

Still, the fact that Lopez was high on the producers’ wish list wasn’t exactly a secret. As The Hollywood Reporter previously reported, Lopez’s deal was expected to close imminently. Fox declined comment on Smart’s remark.
The only confirmed Idol judge so far is returnee Keith Urban, who sat alongside departed season-12 judges Nicki Minaj, Randy Jackson and Mariah Carey.
Talks with Idol alumni Jennifer Hudson, a season-three finalist-turned-Oscar winner, and Adam Lambert, runner-up for season eight, fizzled after many weeks of internal debate.

As THR also reported, Idol execs were recently spotted having lunch with hitmaker Dr. Luke and his manager.
Lopez served as judge for two previous seasons, in 2011 and 2012.
The American Idol season-13 hopefuls are expected to face the judges for the first time next month, with the season premiere set for January.
