EAST SACRAMENTO—

Held at gunpoint for a few minutes in the well-manicured lawn community of East Sacramento, a landscaper got the scare of his life.

“The landscapers backed up, that is when these two men picked up the lawnmower, threw it into the van and took off,” said Sacramento Police Spokeswoman Michelle Gigante.

Lawnmowers cut a lot of green, but they can also be sold for a lot of green – and police believe that could be the motivation for why someone stole one at gunpoint.

“I am pretty confident that they are either using these or they are selling them pretty cheap to other people,” Gigante said.

This armed robbery happened in the 500 block of 45th street in East Sacramento, but just a couple of blocks away we ran into two other landscapers working on people’s homes who have also had equipment stolen.

“I think about two blowers … It’s scary because maybe all the time they have guns or knives,” said David Lozano.

“Last year about this time I got robbed this street right here … two blowers,” said Ignatio Arreola.

Police are paying close attention to this crime because of the aggressive way the men took the $1,200 Toro lawnmower.

“When something is taken by force or fear, that is a robbery and that’s a felony,” Gigante said.

Sacramento Police are asking anyone who saw anything to give them a call. They’re also asking anyone who is offered a lawn mower for a price that is just too good to be true to give them a call because it could be landscaper’s stolen lawnmower.
