History Channel’s sister network, H2, has greenlighted a new invention series.
Thing-a-ma-bob, an unscripted show centered on renowned inventor Bob Partington, has been given a 10-episode order, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.
Each episode of Thing-a-ma-bob, from T Group Productions and 1st Avenue Machine, will see Partington being given a box of three random objects that he must use to create an over-the-top yet functional item. At the end of the episode, how the seemingly unrelated objects relate to a historical event or person will be revealed.
Production is under way in New York City, with H2 eyeing an early or mid-2014 launch.
Partington, who creates fabrications and sculptures that highlight technology and science, has worked with media conglomerates MTV and Disney, and bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Metric. (For samples of Partington’s work, visit www.bobpartington.com.)
Executive producers on Thing-a-ma-bob are Jenny Daly, Bill Rademaker, Andrew Geller, Sam Penfield, Arvind Palep and Serge Patzak.
The series order comes after a busy year for T Group, established in 2010 by Daly, which has had a slew of projects in various stages already this year, including MTV’s Food School, Nat Geo’s Divine Intervention and Oxygen’s Secret Celebrity.
Programming on H2, an extension of History (Its tagline is “More 2 History.”), includes Top Guns, America’s Book of Secrets and The Universe.
