LONDON – Yahoo said Tuesday that it has hired U.K. TV industry veteran Dawn Airey as senior vp in charge of its business in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
Airey, who has held top posts at many U.K. TV companies, will report directly to Yahoo COO Henrique de Castro, the Internet giant’s number two executive behind CEO Marissa Mayer. Airey will be tasked with helping the online giant grow throughout the region.

As of Nov. 1, Christophe Parcot, who has run Yahoo’s EMEA region on an interim basis for the past year and a half, will take on a new role. The firm didn’t immediately detail his new title but said he would focus on expanding the online company’s business in the region.
“Dawn is well known for her visionary thinking, operational discipline and leadership skills, and I can’t wait to work with her as we position Yahoo for growth throughout the EMEA region,” said De Castro. “I’m confident that the future is bright for Yahoo in EMEA.”
“It is great to be joining Yahoo, especially at such an exciting point in time,” said Airey. “To be part of the Yahoo renaissance was simply irresistible for me, and I am very much looking forward to driving change, innovation and growth for the EMEA region.”
Airey has worked in TV for 30 years. Most recently, she was president of a unit of European broadcast giant RTL Group until her departure in April. Before that, she was chairman and CEO of U.K. broadcaster Channel 5.
She worked previously as managing director of global content at ITV and, prior to that, served as managing director, channels and services, at BSkyB. She also held various posts at Channel 4.
Airey is a full-time replacement for former EMEA boss Rich Riley, who left as part of a restructuring last year. He was named CEO of music discovery service Shazam earlier this year.
