Today is the first day of the 123rd Annual Meeting of the American Historical Association. The theme this year is Globalizing Historiography. See the online Program for a complete list of sessions.

Here are a few things going on at the Annual Meeting today:

Locations and Times

• Registration desks are located on the Hilton’s second floor promenade and are open today from 12:00–7:00 pm. If you’ve already registered for the meeting, stop by to pick up your registration badge. If you haven’t registered, come by to do so, or register online.
• The Job Center is located in the Hilton’s Rhinelander Gallery and is open today from 12:30–6:00 pm. (Admission to the Job Center requires an AHA registration badge)
• The Exhibit Hall is open today from 3:00– 7:00 pm. (Admission to the Exhibit Hall requires an AHA registration badge)

• Presidential Sessions: Catastrophe and Transformation and Logics of History: Social Theory and Social Transformation, by William H. Sewell Jr.
• From Dissertation to Book: The Process as an Intellectual Dilemma (and Some Practical Advice Too)
• Teaching and Learning through a Teaching American History Grant
• Globalizing Historiography: Reciprocal Integration and Future Directions
• The Past of the Future or the Future of the Past? Perspectives on Digital Historical Monographs from Gutenberg-e Authors

Film Festival

• Walker is the “story of the North American freebooter who led a band of troops into Nicaragua during its civil war in the 1850s and installed himself as president.” It is also the first film in this year’s Film Festival and will take place tonight from 5:30–7:30 pm in the Hilton’s Rendezvous Trianon.

Opening of the 123rd Annual Meeting
The Opening of the Meeting will be held at 7:30 pm in the Trianon Ballroom of the Hilton New York. It will be followed by:

• The presentation of the sixth Theodore Roosevelt-Woodrow Wilson Public Service Award to Adam Hochschild, author of King Leopold’s Ghost
• The plenary session: The Pleasures of the Imagination.
