SHINGLE SPRINGS-

A chase, a crash and a fire all shook up a Shingle Springs neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

And it all happened because of speed.

A California Highway Patrol officer was chasing a man on a motorcycle when he lost control on Woodside Way plunging into a wooded area in between houses.

“He went off the road and crashed on the bike and the officer came in. We got the person in custody [and] on his way to jail. Looks like the exhaust pipe on the motorcycle caused a grass fire,” said CHP Sergeant Gilbert Lee.

Crews from Cal Fire and El Dorado County were able to keep the flames from getting out of control and getting to any of the homes in the area.

The  motorcyclist who was thrown off of his bike suffered only minor injuries. He will be charged with felony fleeing and driving with a suspended license.

The  CHP officer’s car caught fire after he was out of it,  so he was not injured.
