HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- Volunteers from the Paint Rock Valley History Project are planning a get-together on Sunday to honor the memory of two of the community's leaders - the late Pete Prince and Russell Wilson - and to celebrate the area's history and traditions.

"We would like to make this an annual event to recognize the elders who have made contributions to the valley and to preserve its institutions and heritage," said Judy Prince, a volunteer coordinator for the project for the last 12 years and Pete Prince's daughter.

The party, to be held at a Monte Sano State Park pavilion, is for Paint Rock Valley residents and their friends, and others interested in the Paint Rock Valley and preservation efforts.

The Paint Rock Valley History Project's mission is to preserve the history and customs of the valley and help preserve the Paint Rock Valley School that houses grades K-12.

Judy Prince, who grew up in the Paint Rock Valley and is now a psychotherapist in Birmingham, said one of the valley's institutions was the "rolling store" that her father started in the 1950s and operated for about 20 years from his general store, Pete Prince General Merchandise, in Estil Fork. Pete Prince died in 2000. Wilson, who died earlier this year, was the main driver of the "rolling store."

Guests for the event should arrive in the campgrounds' parking lot from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
