Anthrax is heading to Westeros. Scott Ian and the rest of the long-running metal group will contribute to next year’s Catch the Throne, the mixtape inspired by the HBO smash Game of Thrones and accompanying its upcoming fifth season.
Details of the season-five Catch the Throne tape — which follows last year’s opus featuring Big Boi, Wale, Daddy Yankee and others — have yet to be announced. However, Anthrax posted a photo to Facebook on Tuesday (Dec. 30) showing Ian in the studio, with the caption “Stay tuned… #CatchTheThrone #ANTHRAXalbum2015.”
“All of you out there who watch Game of Thrones, much like me, probably think it’s a very metal TV show,” Ian recently told Metal Hammer. “And just know, the reason for that is that one of the creators [D.B. Weiss] is a huge metalhead.”

Furthermore, Anthrax will record drums for its upcoming album in the famed Westeros throne room, from the HBO set in Belfast. Ian continued, “I asked Dan, ‘Hey man, what would be the possibility of us recording the drums for the next album in the throne room? Like we bring a mobile studio and set up the drums, mic everything and record in here.’ He says, ‘Oh my God, that would be the sickest thing ever. We know the guys that can make that possible.’ “
The full list of contributors for next year’s Catch the Throne has not been released, although Killswitch Engage has also confirmed its involvement. Game of Thrones returns to HBO in spring 2015.
