Detailed review
Review of head unit:I did quite a bit of research on navigation units before deciding to get this one. Overall, I'm very satisfied with it. I installed it myself and have had it for over a month now. I feel like I understand all of its features pretty well. The following is a rundown of what I like, don't like, and what I think is odd or noteworthy:Likes:Responsiveness - the touchscreen is like a high quality smartphone. You press a button once and it reliably works right away. Everything is snappy to respond.Start-up time: - From the ignition being off to hearing music and seeing the GPS map is ~9 seconds. This is way better than some comparable units.iPhone integration - via the additional iPhone cable - works great with Pandora, iHeart Radio and the music on the device itself (all controllable from the head unit touchscreen with album artwork and the ability to change stations or albums/playlists). It also will work to play anything else, like TuneIn or mlb.com AT BAT, but you lose some of the controls via the JVC touchscreen (only basic stuff works, like pause/play and next). The same loss of some controls goes for using Bluetooth instead of the cable. Sound quality is still great though.Quality of GPS - the speed of calculating routes and picking the best way is top notch. Every nav units has its little quirks, but this one is very good. I'm coming from a pretty new Garmin, and I like this just as much. This unit is actually much faster to calculate/recalculate than the Garmin is.Sound shaping - the EQ is great. Way more than I will ever need.Screen - the screen looks great and being able to tilt it in 8 different directions is awesome to eliminate glare. I love the negative tilt. DVDs look great.SD Card - being able to have 32 gigs of music on-board all the time is very nice. It also supports folder structure like you probably already have your collection organized on your home computer. For example, I have it as Music - Full CDs - Artist - Album(s) - Songs. I just copied the content from Full CDs onto the SD card and it's organized and easy to get to everything on the head unit.Adjustable brightness with separate settings for Day and NightThere's always a great amount of controls available on the Map screen while navigating.Bluetooth call quality seems pretty good now that I mounted the mic on the top of the A pillar, near the sun visor.Dislikes:The traffic is sometimes unreliable. It seems to overly predict bad traffic. I had to disable the auto-re-route feature because it was trying to make me take strange routes to avoid phantom traffic. I've set the actual traffic indicators to stay on (red & green lines) but I have it ignore traffic when calculating routes and navigating. At least it has these options. I just check my phone to see what traffic is really like using the Google Maps app if the JVC tells me something is really bad on my route. In my experience, Garmin is much more reliable as far as displaying traffic.Drive Tracks do not seem to work, at least not on my unit. Maybe this is because I don't have the speed pulse connected? The speed limit is displayed, but my current speed is not. Again, probably because I didn't hook up the speed pulse.I kind of wish the face came off for added security.Notes:I have the Parking Brake bypassed using a little gadget I bought. This way I can still access all the functions while in motion. Without it bypassed, many features do not work. If you are installing it, I believe you can just connect the parking break wire to the black wire in the wiring harness. If you are using an iPhone to play iHeart Radio, the app must be active for the music to play is you are using the special "JVC iHeartLink" app which gives you full controls on the touchscreen including being able to see station lists. If you try to go to your home screen or use the phone in any other way, the music will stop until you boot up the app again. If you want to be able to use your phone without interrupting iHeartRadio, you're better off using the head unit in iPod mode with the regular iHeartRadio app. However, if you have a jailbroken iPhone, you can bypass this problem with the iHeartLink JVC app by using "Backgrounder". Pandora doesn't have these problems, it plays just fine in the background.Video only streams from the iPhone if you connect using the special (not included) iPhone cable - it won't work just using the included USB cable. Supported video sources include your own movies/videos on your device, Netflix. The MLB.com AT BAT app works for sound only. However, if you have a jailbroken device, using "Display Out" makes it so you can send any video source to the unit (basically mirroring your phone). If you have an iPhone 5, I think you may be out of luck for video altogether because the new cord doesn't support video... I'm not 100% sure about that though. I plan to keep my 4S in the car as long as I own the unit and just connect it via wifi hotspot from my newer phone as time goes by.Like I said, there are positives and negatives to all of these nav units, but based on the whole package, I really like this one and would recommend it to anyone.

I bought this radio about 3 years ago off of Amazon I installed it in my 2009 Honda Accord and it worked great, 3 months in an happy with what I bought I decided to buy another one and installed it in my wife's 2010 Honda Accord. Last summer my unit started to act weird, the volume control would switch to the highest or the lowest setting on it's own and I had to constantly factory reset it all the time. I also have a problem when the unit turns on it stays on the security screen and it won't allow me to enter the code to start it up, I have to tap the screen continuously until I see that it's responding then. The very same thing happened to the unit that I installed in my wife's car, I've been trying to contact JVC to see if there was anything that could be done but I've gotten no response.

With the iPod, HD Radio, SiriusXM, CD, and regular FM have so many choices it is overwhelming, and the sound from all of them is great. Display is easy to use, bright except in the brightest sunlight. BT Phone integration is great!

One major function to me on the navigation side is missing. The ability to set multiple preplanned itineraries with waypoints and store them in advance. Imagine a trip from Boston to DC and I want to take the Tappan Zee instead of the always default George Washington. I can't set the trip in advance as I can on my much less expensive TomTom and then recall the route. Or plan mutiple routes then choose the one I want to use based on traffic or weather. I have to program the the trip when I am ready to go and select the waypoints (you only get 4) as if they were destinations so it beomes a very arduous task that is prone to errors. With the processing power of this unit adding a program and store itenerary feature shouldn't be that difficult.

Besides that it is a very good unit.

I have owned this radio for about 5 months now, so I thought I'd write a brief summary. My disclaimer is that I am not an expert audiofile. I selected this system on advice that this is the best for Iphone connectivity and apps.
I own a fully loaded 2003 Acura MDX touring with 120K miles. I was very happy with the SUV except that it lacked the new technology for Bluetooth/Iphone connectivity. So originally, I was looking to trade it in, but when realized I would be spending greater than $40K just to get a bluetooth factory stereo and same options as my fully loaded ACura MDX, I started lookng into afermarket systems like this JVC.
After I installed the system, let me say I fell in love with my SUV again. The sounds is awesome my my factory Bose system. My original factory navigation system remained installed in the car, but I lost the voice menu function of the factory stereo, and lost the in dash factory DVD rear entertainment system, (but honestly, wasn't using it much anyway!). But it looks neat, because now I have 2 double-din screens in my car. I can have the factory navigation system up all the time, while I can use JVC for phone and music. I have a choice of using either factory or JVC navigation, but of course, the factory lost it's vice memu, while the JVC retains is voice over the entertainment system.
If you use Itunes for music, you don't get the album artwork unless you physically connect your Iphone to the stereo. If you use bluetooth, the music titles come up, but no artwork.
The other apps I use for music is Pandora and IHeart. You have to physically connect to use these on apps. The downside is that you have to directly go to the app on your Iphone, as well as pressing the app function on the stereo to make this work. That is kind of pain.
The bluetooth phone funtion works very well. When you are listening to you music and your phone rings, it cuts the music, you answer the phone on the stereo, and talk wirelessly. I don't know how I lived without this function before. I did have problems downloading phone directly to the stereo, and often navigating thru the phone directory on the stereo is difficult, if not frustating.
XM radio satellite is dissapointing. I purchased the XM satellite accessory and had it installed. Often, I get errors of "no signal". I wasn't sure if this error is due to placement of the satellite antennae in the car, or the stereo device itself. But I noticed other users in their reveiews, Crutchfield for example, was having the same problem, I believe the error is due to JVC stereo itself. Also, bear in mind, this device lacks advanced functionality of other stereos of XM stereo ITunes tagging, DVR recording for playback, etc. I keep checking JVC website often for firmware software updates to correct this, but so far, no avail. Other stereos in this class, Kenwood for example, does have this functionality. This s a major downside to this stereo.
Conclusion: I save myself major money of buying a new car, instead bought this aftermarket stereo and fell in love with my SUV all over again. I have the same advanced technology in my car as any expensive new car with factory Bluetooth stereo! I won't be trading in my car for a while with the new stereo!
I do recommend this stereo, hoping that the XM satellite function is improved.
