COUNTRY HOMECOMING: As long as American Idol continues to bring back past Idols to perform on the show, we’ll keep reporting on their subsequent bounces on the Billboard charts. Last week, Carrie Underwood and Casey James returned to the place where it all began and both have something to boast about as a result.
Underwood performed her new single, “See You Again,” on Idol. On the Country Airplay chart, the song jumps 60-51 in its second week on the tally. On The Billboard 200 album chart, Underwood’s Blown Away sees new life with a leap of 55-44. Not bad for an album that is just four weeks shy of its one-year anniversary on the chart. The title track, which was the second single from the album, following “Good Girl,” rebounds this week. It’s up 25-23 on Country Digital Songs. Underwood also appeared on The ACM Awards Sunday night, the last day of the sales week.

James performed his new single, “The Good Life,” on Idol. The self-titled parent album re-enters Top Country Albums at No. 32 and is also back on the Top Contemporary Albums chart at No. 183.
Next week we’ll be looking for a Scotty McCreery charge back up the charts and for Kelly Clarkson‘s new single, “People Like Us,” to debut.
GOING, GOING, GONE: Phillip Phillips’ “Home” cannot be moved. The song is No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart for a 12th consecutive week. There is a sign that this could be the single’s final week in pole position. On the Adult Contemporary Audience chart, “Home” slips from the lead position after a 10-week reign, yielding to Pink’s “Try.” Will the same thing happen next week on the main AC chart? Tune in here to find out.
Meanwhile, the follow-up to “Home” continues to prosper. “Gone, Gone, Gone,” heard every week on the Idol results show as the exit song, reaches its highest position yet on a Billboard chart by rising 4-3 on the Triple A (Adult Album Alternative) survey. The single is also up 15-13 on Adult Top 40, 11-9 on Rock Digital Songs and is holding at No. 12 with a bullet on Rock Songs. On the Canadian Hot 100, “Gone, Gone, Gone” jumps 57-43.
BITS AND PIECES: Fantasia’s “Lose to Win” stands pat at No. 7 on the Adlt R&B chart and advances 24-22 on R&B Songs… Kelly Clarkson’s performance of “Don’t Rush” on The ACM Awards had an immediate effect on the song’s ranking on Country Digital Songs, where it re-enters at No. 28. On Hot Country Songs, the song rushes 36-28… The Broadway version of Rock of Ages spends another week on the Top Cast Albums chart, marching 14-13. The album features vocals by season four’s Constantine Maroulis… After a lengthy run on the rap and R&B charts, “Battle Scars” by Lupe Fiasco and Guy Sebastian (from Australian Idol) crosses over to pop. The song debuts at No. 38 on the Mainstream Top 40 chart.
