LONDON – Oscar-winning filmmaker Danny Boyle is set to direct a the pilot for a U.K. cop show, called Babylon, for Britain’s Channel Four.
Babylon will mark a rare move into TV work for Boyle.
The drama will be written by BAFTA award- winning Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong, creators of U.K. cult comedies Fresh Meat and Peep Show.
Channel Four said it hopes to develop Babylon into a full series.
Boyle, who won the best director Academy Award for Slumdog Millionaire in 2010, was also the creative mastermind behind the opening ceremony of the London Summer Olympics in 2012.
Boyle more recently shot the feature Trance, starring James McAvoy and Rosario Dawson, released theatrically earlier this year.
The director’s further excursions away from film include a critically-acclaimed production of Frankenstein at the National Theatre, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller.
