Zach Braff’s successful Kickstarter campaign for Wish I Was Here has helped the actor-director land a leading film financier: Worldview Entertainment.
“Zach has proven again that he is a creative force in independent film, and we were immediately drawn to his powerful and unique story,” said Worldview CEO Christopher Woodrow, who revealed the news at the Cannes Film Festival, where his financing and production company has three films premiering in various sections of the festival.

Wish I Was Here has been generating headlines since April?24 when it became the latest film project to turn to the popular crowd-funding site for help. To date, the project has raised more than $2.6 million from more than 38,000 people, exceeding the $2 million goal.
The movie will be financed through a combination of Kickstarter, Braff’s own money, gap financing from Worldview and foreign presales by Wild Bunch. The movie stars Braff as a young man who, upon learning that his father is dying, must take a second look at his life and reconnect with his family. The budget is said to be under $10 million.

Braff co-wrote the script with his brother, Adam Braff, and will produce with Stacey Sher and Michael Shamberg. Woodrow and Worldview COO Molly Conners will exec produce alongside Worldview’s Maria Cestone, Sarah Johnson Redlich and Hoyt David Morgan.
Wish I Was Here got more good news Wednesday: Braff announced on Kickstarter that Josh Gad is joining the cast.
