On Friday, Ellen DeGeneres was revealed as the host for the 86th Academy Awards.
The comedian, who has hosted the Oscars on one other occasion, was actually the one to break the news on Twitter.
“It’s official: I’m hosting the #Oscars! I’d like to thank @TheAcademy, my wife Portia and, oh dear, there goes the orchestra,” she wrote.

It turns out the decision to bring on DeGeneres as host was a swift one, made on new Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs‘ very first day. The entire process took only 48 hours.
Neil Meron, who is producing the Oscars with Craig Zadan, revealed the timeline on his own Twitter account.

Meron says it all began after Boone Isaacs was announced as the new president of the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences on the night of Tuesday, July 30.
The next morning, Meron and Zadan met with Boone Isaacs and pitched her the idea of DeGeneres hosting the the show …

They called DeGeneres on Wednesday night, and heard from her on Thursday morning.

They decided to let DeGeneres break the good news to the world on Friday morning.

The 86th Academy Awards will air March 2 on ABC.
