TORONTO – Millennium Entertainment has picked up U.S. rights to the John Turturro-helmed Fading Gigolo.
Sources peg the deal, which closed late Monday morning after an all-night session, at $3 million.
Woody Allen, making a rare foray in front of the camera, stars as bookseller-turned-pimp to Turturro’s middle-aged neophyte hustler. The film shot in New York, where Turturro and Allen have staked their claim as filmmakers. Turturro wrote the screenplay.
The film, which made its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on Saturday at the Isabel Bader Theatre, also stars Vanessa Paradis, Liev Schreiber, Sharon Stone and Sofia Vergara.
Jeffrey Kusama-Hinte produced with QED’s Bill Block and Paul Hanson. Sasha Shapiro, Anton Lessine, Bart Walker and Scott Ferguson served as executive producers.
In a statement, Turturro said “I am gratified that the team behind Bernie responded so enthusiastically to our film – both to the humor and the delicacy of the romantic relationships — and I look forward to working with them on the theatrical release.”
Millennium Entertainment recently released The Iceman, starring Michael Shannon and Winona Ryder.
ICM Partners, which reps Turturro and Allen, and QED International brokered the deal.
