Dimension Films has picked up U.S. distribution rights to horror pic Pest, from IM Global and Blumhouse Productions.
The film follows a teen who documents her family’s life in quarantine after a deadly virus invades her hometown. She thinks she’s safe from the virus that killed off much of the human population, but then discovers that her own sister is infected.
Octane, the genre division of IM Global, is fully financing the pic, which will be produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse and Sherryl Clark of Busted Shark. IM Global CEO Stuart Ford, Charles Layton and Matt Kaplan are executive producing.
Directed by House at the End of the Street helmer Mark Tonderai, Pest is based on Barbara Marshall’s original screenplay, which appeared on the 2012 Black List. Castings for the film have yet to be announced.
“I was captivated by Marshall’s screenplay. There is a complicated family drama amid a terrifying and tense story of an outbreak that is unleashed. I’m excited to be working with Jason Blum and Stuart Ford again to bring this terrifying thriller to audiences,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company.
David Glasser, COO of The Weinstein Company and Michal Steinberg, evp business/legal affairs and acquisitions, negotiated the deal for Dimension Films. IM Global’s Ford svp business affairs Florence Larsonneur and Blum negotiated on behalf of the film.
