Sacramento police have learned that the gun found in the trash Tuesday at Natomas Middle School was stolen.
It was reported as such out of the Bay Area.
It was found the same day a loaded gun was found in the backpack of a student at Discovery High School.
Superintendent Chris Evans says both of the young men arrested say they had the guns with them over the weekend for protection, forgot about them in their bags and then remembered them at school.
Evans is about to bring eight months worth of effort to a close by hiring someone in the district to help kids on the fence with social-emotional support.
The hopes to make that announcement next week.
