LODI —

It wasn’t long ago when Michael Montgomery’s skater friends remember him cruising around on his board at the Lodi skate park.

“We used to skate all the time here,” one friend told FOX40 Friday.

More than 84 miles from Montgomery’s hometown of Lodi, the 21-year-old is behind bars at the San Francisco Jail, accused of the stabbing death of 24-year-old Jonathan Denver. According to San Francisco Police, a fight broke out between the two men just outside of AT&T Park Wednesday after the Los Angeles Dodgers-San Francisco Giants game.
Paige Cahill tells FOX40 she’s not surprised. Montgomery used to be her friend, until he started getting in trouble.
“It’s not a big shocker. We used to be friends two years ago until he started getting in trouble. Then, he
was arrested for having guns and substances in his car maybe a year ago,” Cahill told FOX40 Friday.

FOX40 attempted to reach Montgomery’s family at their homes in Lodi, but they did not want to talk to us. According to the Lodi-News Sentinel, Montgomery’s father says his son was acting in self-defense.

The Giants will donate $10 from each ticket sold in various sections at AT&T Park this week, according to a spokesperson.
