The National Endowment for the Humanities Division of Preservation and Access offers Humanities Collections and Resources grants to U.S. nonprofit organizations or institutions, as well as to state and local government agencies. These grants range from $50,000 to $350,000 and are meant to support projects that preserve and create intellectual access to such collections as books, journals, newspapers, manuscript and archival materials, maps, still and moving images, sound recordings, art, and objects of material culture. For instance, eligible projects include: digitizing collections, preservation reformatting, conservation treatment, deacidification of collections, arranging and describing archival and manuscript collections, as well as the creation of databases and electronic archives, descriptive catalogs, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and other types of research tools and reference works.
