Cannes — Those curious about Terrence Malick‘s Knight of Cups — starring Christian Bale, Natalie Portman and Cate Blanchett — will get their first glimpse of the film in Cannes when Glen Basner‘s FilmNation shows footage to foreign distributors investing in Malick’s latest endeavor.

The film’s tightly guarded plot is said to be about celebrities and excess. Knight of Cups is currently in post production.
Basner’s company, celebrating its fifth anniversary this year, has quickly built a reputation for successfully auteur driven projects overseas. Malick is among a number of filmmakers who have turned to FilmNation to represent their films internationally.
They include Sofia Coppola, whose film The Bling Ring opens the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday. Two other films on FilmNation’s international sales are in Cannes this year; J.C. Chandor’s All is Lost, starring Robert Redford and which plays out of competition, and Alexander Payne‘s Nebraska, a competition title. Paramount is handling Nebraska domestically, as well as in the U.K. And Germany. FilmNation is handling everywhere else.
