Cinedigm has entered into an agreement to distribute five feature films in partnership with Magnet Media Productions over the next three years, it was announced Wednesday.
Those are expected to include Married and Cheating, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Eva Longoria and Brendan Fraser, which is currently in pre-production.
Cinedigm will release the movies through its digital distribution and marketing system, which delivers pictures to theaters electronically and then makes them available on all of the ancillary windows, beginning with VOD and digital downloads.
“In Cinedigm, we have found a partner who can help us bring our films to best possible audiences and to guide the marketing efforts behind those releases,” said Michele Ohayon, CEO of Magnet. “A smart theatrical release for independent projects is invaluable in terms of enhancing awareness and interest, and Cinedigm has created the perfect model for getting films to theaters in a financially responsible manner, creating tremendous upside for the entire industry.”
“It’s vital to the entire industry that the independent film community stay strong and vibrant,” said Vincent Scordino, vice president of acquisitions for Cinedigm, who negotiated the deal, “and this type of smart theatrical release with targeted marketing is bound to do just that.”
Other recent Magnet releases have included Thirteen, The Experiment and Dark Tide.
