Skydance Production’s Dana Goldberg has been upped to the newly created position of chief creative officer.
The move comes in the wake of Skydance signing a mammoth co-financing and distribution deal with Paramount Pictures last month that will keep the David Ellison-led company busy as the studio and Skydance prepare to team up on a number of projects including a new Star Trek and Mission: Impossible.
Goldberg had been serving as president of production. In her new role, she will oversee all aspects of creative development and production for film and television. While her main emphasis will continue to be film, Goldberg now will shepherd the TV department led by Marcy Ross, president of television.
“I am so proud of the company Skydance has become, and I feel truly fortunate to be working with David and the entire Skydance team,” Goldberg said. “I believe that our future is incredibly bright as we continue to make the company a welcome home for talent in both features and television.”
Goldberg and Skydance principal Ellison have enjoyed an impressive run since Goldberg joined the company in 2010, including such films as Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Jack Reacher and World War Z. The three projects have earned more than $1.3 billion at the box office to date. Upcoming Skydance projects include the high-profile Terminator.
“Since her arrival at Skydance, Dana has proved herself to be an incredibly gifted and talented creative partner and friend,” Ellison said. “Her work has been instrumental in Skydance’s success, and I am thrilled to expand our relationship as Skydance continues to grow its business.”
Before joining Skydance, Goldberg was president of production at Village Roadshow Pictures, where she served as executive producer on many of the company’s films, including the Will Smith vehicle I Am Legend and the Oscar-winning animated feature Happy Feet.
