Dwight Caines has been promoted to president of domestic theatrical marketing at Sony after heading up digital marketing for the film studio, and Nigel Clark will serve as president of Sony’s marketing efforts overseas.
Caines replaces ousted marketing chief Marc Weinstock, who exited the top job after a dismal summer at the box office. Weinstock had served as president of marketing worldwide.
Caines will report to Jeff Blake, vice chairman of the film studio. He had run Sony’s global digital motion picture marketing since 2005. Clark, who previously reported to Weinstock, will now report to Blake.
“I am very pleased to welcome Dwight into this expanded role, where we can all benefit from his unique expertise,” said Blake. “As the media landscape has evolved, Dwight’s team has been at the forefront of the latest trends and technologies, keeping in step with new ways to reach movie fans.”
Added Caines: “I have had the privilege of marketing films from across our diverse family of labels in the digital world over the last nearly ten years, so I am pleased to be taking on a larger role in marketing. I am looking forward to working with everyone here at Sony Pictures as we continue to embrace innovations across all platforms.”
In his previous post, Caines oversaw all digital marketing for films from Columbia Pictures, TriStar, Screen Gems and Revolution Studios. He joined Sony Pictures in 1997 as director of market research before rising up the ranks.
Caines got his start in new media in 1994 while working for Chase Manhattan Bank, launching and managing the company’s first call center dedicated to servicing PC Banking customers.
