Dolby has released a new video featuring director Alfonso Cuaron and re-recording mixer Skip Lievsay talking about how they created the sound for Gravity, which you can watch below.
“There no sound in space,” Cuaron explained. “Nevertheless sound is transmitted through interaction of elements, meaning if our characters touch stuff, the vibrations of that will travel into their ears and they will get a muffled representation of that sound.”
Gravity was mixed at Warners by Lievsay in collaboration with re-recording mixer Niv Adiri. Glenn Freemantle was the supervising sound editor and sound designer.
The film was released in both 7.1 Surround and Dolby’s immersive new Atmos format.
