Lego has officially announced a gigantic SHIELD Helicarrier model ahead of the New York Toy Fair in February. The long-hoped-for set contains 2,996 pieces and the finished build will be 11 inches high, 31 inches long and 17 inches wide.
The set will go on sale in March (with VIP members getting a chance to buy it in mid-Feb.) with a retail price of $349.99, making it the second-most-expensive set in the company’s lineup behind the $399.99 Star Wars Death Star.
Based on the Helicarrier seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the model features four working rotor blades that can be hand-cranked or modified to use a Lego power source, a detailed interior control room, three microscale quinjets and the introduction of 12 new-sized microscale figures (Captain America, Iron Man, Nick Fury, Hawkeye and eight SHIELD agents).

Lego is also including five regular minifigures — Captain America, Nick Fury, Maria Hill (a first) and the Black Widow — that can be mounted on a cool stand.
The Helicarrier arrives three months before the May 1 release of Avengers: Age of Ultron, which is expected to be one of the highest-grossing movies of the year.
Lego fans have been eagerly anticipating a Helicarrier since a 22,000-piece model was submitted to Lego Ideas, a company-run website where fans can post their custom builds for consideration as official sets. Ideas sets that have already been introduced include the Back to the Future DeLorean and the Ghostbusters Ecto-1. Rumors have swirled since the model was proposed in May that Lego would produce an official set, but some fans expressed concerns about the difficulty of scaling down the 22,000-piece model to a size that would be affordable to produce.
The Helicarrier is the first UCS (Ultimate Collector’s Series)-style model to feature Marvel characters. Both Star Wars and DC have seen several UCS sets, including the recent Slave-1 and Batman Tumbler models.
