Faith Jones, librarian in the Dorot Jewish Division of the New York Public Library, has been presented the ABC-CLIO Online History Award for her Yizkor Books Project. Yizkor, or memorial, books originally contained lists of names of Jews killed because of their religion. The first yizkor book dates back to 1296. In the 50’s, 60’s, and early 70’s, postwar yizkor books were produced, and
contained not only lists of names but also biographies, sketches, and essays. The books were written mainly in Hebrew and Yiddish, but some contain English summaries at the end. 650 of these postwar yizkor books can now be accessed free online as digital images through the Yizkor Books Project.

The award committee also recognized three sites with honorable mentions. These sites include:

• The Bethlehem Digital History Project – A variety of resources on Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, 1741–1844.
• Densho: The Japanese American Legacy Project – Testimonies of Japanese Americans during World War II, as well as images, teacher resources, and more.
• The Giza Archives Project – Photos, diary entries, articles, and more from the 1902-47 archaeological excavation at Giza.
