COLOGNE, Germany – Keshet International has sold Prisoners of War, the original Israeli series that inspired Showtime’s Homeland, across Europe and Canada.
Keshet, which handles international distribution for Prisoners of War, signed a raft of new deals for the show, including ones with Universal Pictures in Germany, LUK International in Spain and Norwegian public broadcaster NRK. In Canada, Video Services Crop picked up broadcasting, DVD and VOD rights for Prisoners and is planning an all-platform bow on iTunes Canada, on DVD and on Canada’s Super Channel later this year.

In a separate deal, Turkish production group Medyapim has opitioned the drama for a local-language remake. Medyapim is Turkey’s largest format producer and has had success adapting U.S. series for the local market, scoring hits with Turkish-language takes on Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice.
The new deals follow on the heels of Keshet’s agreements with the U.K. (Sky Arts), Australia (SBS), Russia (Weit Media) and Scandinavia (Netflix) for Prisoners of War. French-German network Arte picked up free-TV rights to the series for France, Belgium and German-speaking Europe.
Created by writer Gideon Raff, also a writer and executive producer on Homeland, for Keshet in Israel, Prisoners of War has been a massive local ratings hit across its two seasons.
