COLOGNE, Germany — Italian director Paolo Sorrentino, whose latest, The Great Beauty, was a critical smash in its Cannes competition debut, will receive a retrospective of his life’s work at next month’s Munich International Film Festival.
The Munich festival, which runs from June 28 to July 6, will present This Must Be The Place in its German premiere and will screen a wide range of Sorrentino’s early work, including the Oscar-nominated Il Divo (2008), Sean Penn/Frances McDormand-starrer This Must Be The Place (2011) and the director’s first two features: One Man Up (2001) and The Consequences of Love (2004). The retrospective will also include a selection of Sorrentino’s early short films.
The director will attend the festival and take part in a public Q&A about his life and work.
