Sunforce Solar Panels are effective in areas of both high and lower sun exposure, making them ideal for use in the United StatesThe Power Sports Charger may be attached directly to your battery using either of the accessories included with the charger. Included with the charger are a set of “O” Rings as well as a set of battery clamps. Both are equipped with quick connect technology to allow quick and easy connections.
About Amorphous Solar Power
Solar panels convert sunlight into an electric current, they do not store power. Amorphous solar panels are created by spraying silicon onto glass in very thin layers, and are commonly known as thin film solar panels. This process allows them to be better at generating electricity in all lighting conditions, including cloudy or shady environments. They have a maximum operating temperature range of -40 to 176-degrees Fahrenheit, requiring virtually no maintenance. They can even withstand impacts from one-inch hailstones at 50 miles-per-hour.
Amorphous Silicon key points:
- Lightweight, portable, and shade tolerant
- For entry to solar or hands on solar
- Best for smaller output needs, temporary set ups, and areas that do not receive predictable sun conditions

- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2013I have this on the wall outside my garage on the South facing side. I plug it into my motorcycle which has a connector on it feeding to the battery (so one can put a charger on it or a trickle charger to maintain the battery). It does the trick. Works very well and I measure the no-load voltages coming off of the leads in full sun, partial sun, and shade. I am surprised it is able to generate a good voltage even in the shade from stray light photons -- it is that sensitive! This seem to be the black microcrystalline cells (the newest technology). I think all in all well built.
You know many motorcycles (and cars for that matter) have some energy consumption even when the are off. That is because of things like clocks and security systems, etc. My Harley Davison VRod has both an internal clock and a security system and it does have a small draw on the battery when it is turned off and parked. Not a problem if it is parked for a day or two but if it is parked for a week then there are issues sometime starting it. This little solar cell counters that and keeps the battery charged but not over charged. Now over a month and it is working great... my bike fires right up like the battery is new and has a full charge on it every time!
Since it is waterproof I just leave it outside all the time. It has rained hard and the unit has been partially submerged in flowing water and it has no signs of taking on any internal moisture or any damage.
It has a standard connector that I just plugged directly into my motorcycle connector... installed it right out of the box in 2 seconds. It also comes with that connector on a pig-tail to wire one to your battery if you don't already have and it has a connector with 2 clamps so you can use it to charge any 12V battery. It would take probably many days to charge a dead battery however -- this 1-Watt is a good trickle (maintenance) charger only.
It has a cigarette lighter connector too... I believe you could put it on your dashboard of your car facing the sun and plug it into your cigarette lighter and trickle charge your car battery that way. That would be great if you park your car at an airport and go on business travel for a week or so then you have that bit of confidence knowing that when you hit your key it fires right up! Should be enough to counter any drain from security systems, clocks, etc. that operate continuously when your vehicle is turned off and parked.
Oh... you are not supposed to operate the vehicle with this attached. I did start my motorcycle once with it attached and no damage. I suspect maybe there is no rectifying diode that protects the unit so running voltage into it may heat up the cells and burn them (guessing -- not sure -- maybe someone else knows that is reading this?) I know altenator generated voltages can be as high as 18VDC (regulated) and if your vehicle voltage regulator is in failure possibly even much higher (70VDC or so on my Harley motorcycle unregulated)I am guessing. I am thinking that if you wired in a diode that would keep the current flowing in the correct direction (protect aganist polarity mis-connection) and block over-voltages say to 200 volts that would improve this and you might be able to even attach it to your car/motorcycle and leave it installed. That would be better if you didn't have to think of un-hooking it when you decided to drive/ride somewhere. Just a thought. Someone else that knows more please chime in.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2011This solar panel works great as a way of keeping a battery topped up over the winter for my riding lawn mower. It comes with an extension cable (which I ended up not needing but a nice bonus nonetheless, the standard cable is plenty long enough at more than a yard in length). It also comes with 4 plastic 'suckers' for attaching to glass/window.
Within just 2 hours of hooking up to my mower battery the voltage of the battery went up 1/4 volt, and that's at the end of October !!
I mounted the panel with wood screws to a strip of wood, then screwed the strip of wood to a tree near the mower.I didn't mount it directly to the tree to prevent the screws bending or flexing the panel. Mounting to a tree in this manner it's easy enough to point it south and angle correctly for your longitude. Using my Droid 3 phone I used 'super compass' to point it south and 'bubble' to measure/adjust the angle of tilt.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2014I bought two of these to keep my generators (in a shed) charged and ready to go. They will not charge a dead battery, only maintain a charged battery. It is true that the terminals are reversed, leaving the positive battery terminal unprotected and at risk for grounding out. You could fix this by cutting the wires and reversing them, but I didn't bother. The past few months, these have kept my generator batteries fully charged and ready to go. The only thing it is missing is a LED to show its charging, but you can test with a multimeter to make sure it's working.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2014This product didn't work at all on my motorcycle. Power output was above 12 volts per the volt meter.
Scenario: I left a motorcycle parked in the open (covered) with the charger mounted facing south at the proper angle to the sun. Granted I only had about 3 hours of So Cal sunlight but the battery was nearly fully charged to start with (12.4V). After six months the battery was completely dead--I turned the key and had no lights at all. After replacing the battery the motorcycle started. I put the previously used, very dead, battery on a 1.5A charger and after a few days checked voltage and it came up 12.8 volts. I connected a 12V DC high flow air pump to the battery adding air to all four tires of my van and both tires on the motorcycle--about 10 minutes. Then I let the air pump run for another 10 minutes. I checked voltage on the battery and it was 12.7 volts. I installed the Sunforce 1-watt solar charge on the battery outside my house and ensured it had at least 4 hours of sunlight. After 3 weeks I checked voltage on the batter and it was 11.9 volts. Not sure if this is a bad solar unit or just a bad product.

I installed extra lighting on my motorcycle which caused some problems if the ignition was left on. The Sunforce nicely topped off the charge while the bike was idle.
