Superman and Monsters, Inc.’s Mike Wazowski are joining forces with the Los Angeles Film Festival, which runs from June 13-23 at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles.
The festival announced Wednesday that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ Man of Steel, producer Christopher Nolan and director Zack Snyder’s new take on the Superman story, will have a pre-festival screening June 12 in advance of the film’s release June 14.
Disney/Pixar’s Monsters University, the prequel to 2001’s Monsters, Inc., will screen June 18 in advance of the movie’s opening in the U.S. on June 21.

Director Spike Jonze will discuss his career and show clips from his upcoming film Her at a program called “A Brand of His Own: Being Spike Jonze,” set for June 22.
Additionally, the fest announced that on June 20, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will host “The Iconic Moment,” an event celebrating costume designers and the inauguration of the Academy’s costume designers branch.
Curated by costume designer Sophie de Rakoff, theevening program will include a panel discussion with a group of costume designers, followed by a reception and an exhibit of photographs by artist Alex Prager. Afterwards, there will be an outdoor screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo, featuring costumes by designer Edith Head, preceded by Alex Prager’s Hitchcock-inspired short film Despair.
On June 22, the festival will hold “Women in the Cut: A Celebration of Women Editors.” Panelists will include editors Sandra Adair (Before Midnight, Bernie), Maryann Brandon (Star Trek, Star Wars: Episode VII, Super 8), Pamela Martin (Hitchcock, Ruby Sparks, The Fighter) and Kim Roberts (Waiting For Superman, Food, Inc. and the 2013 festival world premiere of American Revolutionary: The Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs), with Film Independent board president Mary Sweeney hosting and moderating the event.
