TORONTO – Double Dutch International has picked up the world distribution rights to the Egyptian movie Winter of Discontent by director Ibrahim El Batout.
Toronto-based Double Dutch inked the deal to become sales agent of the Venice title ahead of the Cannes film market next month.
“Winter of Discontent is a very raw and powerful look into the events that shaped the Tahrir Square uprising. I’m a big fan of Amr Waked (Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, Syriana) and his performance is truly captivating in this film,” said Double Dutch International’s Jason Moring in a statement Monday.
Actor/producer Waked produced the film. Swipe Films earlier picked up distribution rights to Winter of Discontent for the U.K. and Ireland.
The film stars Waked, Farah Youssef and Salah Alhanafy as it focuses on an activist, a journalist and a state security officer and their lives during the events of January 2011 in Cairo’s Tahrir Square.
