RANCHO CORDOVA—

At the ripe old age of 8, Nicolas Come has started his own movement.

Armed with nothing more than desire, he came up with the idea create an app that would put healthy foods in the hands of kids – and healthy choices only finger tips away.

His dad told him to go to the Hack-a-Thon. It’s an event where computer types come together and collaborate intensively on, mostly, software. That is where Nicolas found his team of experts and got the project off the ground.

It’s called Nicolas’ Garden. It’s allows users to look up favorite foods and get healthy recipes.

Soil Born Farms in Rancho Cordova has been working with Nicolas in helping teach kids about healthy eating start to finish.

Nicolas is not done here, he’s got his sights set on Washington. He is entering a healthy recipe contest put on by the First Lady Michelle Obama. I asked him what he gets if he wins, he said, “Dinner with the President.”

I asked if he was going to make sure the president is eating healthy, he said yes, and let out a chuckle.

Nicolas will be at A Day on the Farm at the American River Ranch on Sunday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $5 per person.
