Pine Street Burgers in Grass Valley is open

Pine Street Burgers in Grass Valley is open. The menu features all-natural burgers, Casper hot dogs, deli sandwiches, grilled sandwiches, wraps, fresh salads, natural shakes, dairy-free shakes, french fries and sweet potato fries, among other items.

We predict it’s going to be a big winner, based on the owner’s track record and the boom in all-natural burger restaurants such as Burger Me in Truckee and Reno.

Our article on some of the best burgers in the Sierra and Sierra Foothills is here, including ones from Ike’s Quarter Cafe, Matteo’s Public, Kane’s Family Restaurant, Monkey Cat and the West Shore Cafe.

Pine Street Burgers is located at 1249 E. Main Street in Grass Valley, where Julie’s Hot Dog Heaven has been operating under the same ownership. (KNCO radio is in the same small shopping center, and there’s plenty of parking).

Menu items include: Smoldering Pine Burger (with bacon, chipotles, grilled onions, mushrooms, swiss cheese and chipotle mayonnaise); basic burger; vegetarian nut burger; veggie chicken wrap; classic rueben; and Asian chicken salad.

“We feature Durham natural beef, free-range chicken, Max’s artisan burger buns and sandwich bread, Truckee sourdough sandwich rolls and Casters famous hot dogs,” the menu reads.

Hours are Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

We’d written about the planned opening here.

The owners are George and Suzie Dyer, who have run South Pine Cafe in Nevada City and Grass Valley, as well as Julie’s Hot Dog Heaven, for years. They were on the cover of our magazine in the winter of 2010.

As regular readers know, we are huge fans of Burger Me in Truckee and rate their all-natural burger one of the best. One of the founders of Burger Me is Mark Estee, a James Beard-award semifinalist who now runs the popular Campo restaurant in Reno.

George Dyer has always told me he’d like to open a natural burger joint in Grass Valley (along with the great burgers at South Pine Cafe), so I’m glad the Dyers are going forward.

As we wrote at the time: “George and Suzie’s motto has remained the same: ‘It’s like eating at home with my family.’”
