STOCKTON—

If the head of a children’s non-profit is caught in compromising photo, should he be forced to resign?

On May 16, Guy Hatch – the chair of the Boys & Girls club of Stockton – was photographed multiple times at Avenue on Stockton’s Miracle Mile, drunk and groping the chests and crotches of other men.

The photos were posted on Frankenmuffin’s Facebook fanpage.

Anthony Silva, Mayor of Stockton and CEO of the Boys & Girls Club, told FOX40 he doesn’t understand all the hoopla.

“It was clearly a group of people sort of engaged in the moment and goofing around, doing a prank or a practical joke,” Silva said.

After being discovered by the Stockton Record, Hatch issued his resignation in a letter.

“I have become an issue, and for the greater good of this organization, I am stepping aside. I am sorry for bringing a negative light to the club,” Hatch wrote.

When asked if the pictures were appropriate for someone who works with children, Silva had this to say:

“Some people will say shouldn’t you hold the chairman of a non-profit to a higher standard? And the answer is yes, but then again people are human, too. So, I don’t think it should be like a career ending thing,” Silva said.

In an era where social media and worldwide distribution is the click of a smartphone camera away, Silva said the photos were not a good example for the kids at the club.

“Should it happen? No. Is this something that we want to use as a role model for the little kids? No.”
