NBC is expanding its relationship with Adam Levine.
Three months after inking The Voice coach to a one-year first-look development deal, the network has picked up a script for a semi-autobiographical comedy from the Maroon 5 singer, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
STORY: Inside Adam Levine’s $35 Million-Plus a Year Empire
The single-camera entry from Universal Television is based on Levine’s relationship with writer-producer Gene Hong (Community). The two were roommates before either found success in Hollywood. Hong will pen the script and executive produce alongside Levine and his longtime manager/producing partner at 222 Productions Jordan Feldstein.
The semi-autobiographical comedy marks the latest collaboration between Levine and Hong, who previously teamed on an NBC half-hour set at a karaoke bar that didn’t move forward in 2011.
Levine and Feldstein inked a first-look deal with NBC in May to create scripted and alternative programming to serve as series and specials for the network.

The push to producing comes as Levine continues to diversify his résumé as he capitalizes on the success of The Voice. Since the top-rated singing competition launched in spring 2011, Levine has launched an acting career, which has included roles in film (Can a Song Save Your Life?) and TV (American Horror Story), as well as fashion and fragrance lines. The growing empire includes a suite of endorsement deals (Proactiv among them), a guest-hosting gig on Saturday Night Live and a big boost to Maroon 5’s sales as well.
Levine marks the second Voice coach to develop a semi-autobiographical comedy for NBC. Last year, Cee Lo Green inked a first-look pact with NBC and developed a comedy based on his life balancing his career and home life as a producer and recording artist. The project did not move forward.
This marks the latest semi-autobiographical comedy this development season, joining projects from Andrea Abbate and Jay Baruchel, among others. Semi-autobiographical comedies were among the biggest trends of the 2012-13 development season.
Levine is repped by CAA.
