It’s back to the casting drawing board for Warner Bros.’ The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
Tom Cruise, who was to have starred in the studio’s big-screen take on the classic TV series, has dropped out.

The actor was looking to shoot the Guy Ritchie-helmed film in the fall before moving on to Mission: Impossible 5, but according to sources, the films were bumping into each other. Giving Cruise leeway was the fact that his deal never closed (unlike his MI:5 deal).
Armie Hammer is still onboard to co-star in the film, while Swedish actress Alicia Vikander is in negotiations for the female lead. The studio is now out to A-listers.
Cruise is the latest actor to leave the project. George Clooney had been attached to star but also exited. Since 2011, the studio has considered stars including Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling, The Killing star Joel Kinnaman and Michael Fassbender.
