It’s not often a car is recovered after a carjacking. It’s even less rare the car is recovered and caught on tape hours later and four counties away.

Two elderly women pulled up to the corner of Sutter and South streets in West Modesto around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. That’s when one man stepped into the street in front of the car and another one pulled a gun on the 73-year-old driver.

“(He) told the driver that he would shoot her if she didn’t get out of the car,” said Sgt. Rick Applegate of the Modesto Police Department. The women got out of the Nissan Versa and the suspects took off.

Hours later, the duo and the stolen car ended up on a chase through San Francisco’s Marina neighborhood. During the chase, the car slammed into the back of a MUNI bus and slammed into a fire hydrant – leaving a wake of rushing water and broken, stolen car parts. The suspects ran from SFPD.

The car is likely totaled due to frame damage, not to mention water damage from the broken fire hydrant.

Modesto detectives haven’t made any arrests yet, but tell FOX40 they have identified suspects in the case.
