CANNES – Canadian factual TV producer Antica Productions has signed a first-look deal with Entertainment One to get its series into the North American and world markets.
Toronto-based Antica and eOne earlier partnered on the first season of cooking competition show Compete to Eat for Blue Ant Media’s Cottage Life channel.
Now they are cementing their ties with an agreement that will see eOne become the studio and deficit financier for series from Antica, which is led by Stuart Coxe. eOne will also handle worldwide distribution.
Antica, based in eOne’s Toronto office, is best known for Canadian series like Vermin Girls for Slice, Wipeout Canada for TVTropolis and What’s in a Name? for History Television.
The first-look deal gets Antica firmly into business with eOne, whose TV credits include Hell on Wheels for AMC, Rookie Blue on ABC and Global Television and the Discovery Channel miniseries Klondike, co-produced with Discovery and Nomadic Pictures, in association with Scott Free Television.
“We are very happy with the terrific experience we had working together on Compete to Eat and look forward to producing more fabulous programming with Stuart and his team,” Loren Mawhinney, vp factual entertainment for eOne, said on Wednesday.
“Our whole team is excited by the creative possibilities this partnership opens up,” added Coxe.
