On MTV’s episode of RapFix Live on Wednesday (May 8), Lil Wayne and Birdman discussed topics including Wayne’s health status after his recent seizure scares and the controversial lyrics that led Rick Ross to lose a lucrative endorsement deal with Reebok.
“I’m good; I’m 100 percent,” says Wayne, who added that he’s been taking his doctor’s advice by getting enough sleep and eating right after being admitted to the hospital multiple times due to seizures, the most recent episode coming early last week. The multi-platinum rapper described his recent seizure episode as, at first, feeling like a regular day: “I went to sleep and woke up in hospital. I felt nothing. I just hope it stops happening.” He added that he feels no lingering effects from the incident.

Another hot topic was lyrical controversies: although host Sway Calloway didn’t ask Wayne about his recent falling out with Mountain Dew, he did probe Birdman about Rick Ross’ highly criticized lyrics on the song “U.O.E.N.O.,” which caused him to lose a sponsorship with Reebok. Birdman stood in solidarity with Ross.
“I don’t see what he did wrong,” Birdman said. “That’s just life — you win and you lose. They got more money out there. You just keep bangin’ hits… I don’t think he meant no harm to nobody, he was just rapping.”
The Young Money Cash Money Billionaires (YMCMB) rappers also shed light on upcoming projects: the pair confirmed that a three-way collaboration called Big Tymers with Drake is in the pipeline, though recording has not yet begun, and Mannie Fresh — who made up the original Big Tymers with Birdman — will not be joining. As to the prospect of a second Like Father, Like Son collaboration with Birdman, Lil Wayne said that, although no formal planning has been done, the two “record every day” and the project is on the horizon. Similarly, Lil Wayne confirmed that he plans to eventually release an album of love songs called “Devol” (“loved” spelled backwards).
Birdman’s next album, Bigger Than Life, is expected to hit stores in September, though he hopes to spend extra time in the studio for some adjustments. And on a final, less-serious note, Birdman explained why he’s always rubbing his hands together, which has become a trademark tic.
“My palms itch a lot,” he says. “It’s the God’s honest truth. I got tired of scratching them so I just rub em.”
