MADRID — International buyers applauded Spanish thriller Alpha, romantic comedy I am Dating you Not, The Extraordinary Tale, Here’s the Deal and Carmina or Blow Up at the Madrid de Cine Spanish Film Screenings, which wrapped with a healthy hum despite a lack of big titles flowing through Spain’s trickling production line.
Sales activity at Spain’s main market included Los Angeles’ Outsiders Pictures picking up U.S. theatrical and online rights for The Body. Miami-based Somos.tv is in talks for Hispanic market rights in the U.S. for Gun, Clara no es Nombre de Mujer and Impavido, which sold to Japan, South Korea and Brazil.
Film Factory’s sale of Group 7, Ishmael, La Gran Familia and Three Many Weddings to Crotia and Slovenia and is in talks with Japan’s Only Hearts with for Code 60. Much-anticipated comic-book title Zipe and Zape and the Marble Club sparked interest in France and Germany.
All eyes were on Mariah Mundi and the Midas Box and A Gun in Each Hand, which were the biggest titles screening. Dreamcatcher’s sales outfit is reportedly in talks to land Spain’s Arcadia Motion Pics and the U.K.’s Entertainment Motion Pics teen-fantasy adventure Mariah a U.S. distribution deal.
The Match Factory, which has already closed 20 territories for Cesc Gay‘s Gun, sold to France’s Zylo Films.
Also in Madrid, Jorge Algora‘s romantic drama Inevitable enjoyed good buzz from German, Italian and French buyers.
The screenings, which ran from June 17-19, attracted 72 international buyers from 29 countries, looking to meet with 225 producers and sales agents in Madrid.
