MARYSVILLE–

A school without internet in 2013, perhaps, is like a pen without ink.

“It’s beyond frustrating,” says English teacher Mark Yediank. “We are very restricted.”

It’s the start of a new school year for 400 students at the C.O.R.E. at Camptonville Academy, a brand new state-of-the-art Charter School in Marysville.

“It’s extremely frustrating, as a parent. My kids are not able to do their assignments because we don’t have internet at home.” says parent Rana Dysart. “They are behind in their schoolwork now.”

School administrators tell FOX40 they sent a letter to AT&T back in March, informing the company that classes at the new 15,000 square-foot facility were scheduled to begin in the fall of 2013, and the school would be needed phone lines and DSL internet.

“I am just surprised a public utility wouldn’t make an extra effort … to come out and make sure we get the service needed” said school director Chris Mahurin.

“They installed our phones on September 9th, but not the internet.” Yet, when FOX40 contacted AT&T corporate offices, a representative told us an order for DSL internet was never placed. In a statement, the company said:

“C.O.R.E. Charter School… placed an order with AT&T for phone lines on August 14th, 2013. We have no record of an order placed for Internet. We are happy to begin the process, should the school choose to…”

An AT&T corporate representative explained that the correspondence the school had with the company back in March was not an order for service.

“Well We tried everything,” Mahurin told FOX40.

The school plans to order internet from AT&T within the next 24 hours.

“We need them to come out as soon as possible … they have already hooked up our phones, we need internet now.” Mahurin said.
