Warner Bros. has debuted the latest trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
The second, action-packed preview focuses on the dwarves of Erebor’s attempt to reclaim their homeland and features plenty of sword fighting and archery involving Orlando Bloom‘s Legolas and Evangeline Lilly‘s Tauriel.
In the clip, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) also stumbles upon a particularly precious item from the Lord of the Rings trilogy but conceals it from Ian McKellen‘s Gandalf.

The new trailer focuses less on Smaug itself, the deadly dragon played in motion capture by Benedict Cumberbatch, but does begin with Freeman’s character saying “Truly details and songs fall short of your enormity, O Smaug, the stupendous.”
And the menace of the dragon is teased at the end as fire cascades toward the screen.
The second installment in Peter Jackson‘s prequel trilogy hits theaters Dec. 13. The film follows Bilbo, the dwarves and Gandalf as they continue on their journey to get the gold back from the dragon.
The third installment, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, is set to be released on Dec. 17, 2014.
