History has promoted Julian P. Hobbs to vp scripted and nonfiction development and programming.
The executive, who was vp programming and development at the network, will now be charged with developing and producing both scripted and nonfiction series, miniseries and specials for the cable network. He also is a key player with History Films, the network’s theatrical documentary unit.
“A passionate risk-taker with spot-on instincts and extensive relationships in the creative community, Julian has emerged as one of the strongest executives in the industry,” said History senior vp programming and development Elaine Frontain Bryant, to whom he will report. “His track record developing and overseeing mega hits like The Bible, which averaged 11.4 million total viewers over its five-week run; and Vikings, History’s first scripted series and the No. 1 new cable scripted series of 2013, attest to his talent for understanding what our viewers want and delivering on it.”
In addition to Bible and Vikings, Hobbs is the exec in charge of production on History’s upcoming miniseries Houdini and is developing both Texas Rising and The Liberator for the network. He was part of the team that developed Pawn Stars and an EP on Counting Cars.
