LONDON – MTV International has greenlighted a documentary show Sleeping With the Family to roll out across its international network from spring 2014.
The show will explore the increasingly common dilemma facing young couples the world over by asking them to move in with one set of disapproving parents.
With more and more young people unable to afford to leave their family home well into adulthood, and a corresponding increase in the number of “millennials” moving in to live with their boyfriend or girlfriend under their parent’s roof, Sleeping With the Family will examine the strains that living with the parents places on young relationships.
Each 60-minute episode will feature a new couple who dare to take on one set of parents by moving in with them to try and convince them that the significant other will be a suitable addition to the family.
The eight-part show will be produced by U.K. independent banner Pulse Films and shot in the U.S.
It will air exclusively on MTV’s channels internationally (excluding the U.S.) from spring 2014.
Kerry Taylor, senior vp and general manager, Youth and Music for Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) described the show as “a compelling blend of drama, humor and heart.”
Sleeping With the Family will be executive produced by Andrea Speziale-Bagliacca and Ilya Colak-Antic for MTV and Thomas Benski and Misbah Alvi at Pulse.
Pulse recently formed a strategic production partnership with Vice Media.
